Award-winning Portuguese hacker exposes dangers for SMEs

.

Pedro Ribeiro, Portuguese hacker champion of international competitions, will speak at the event “PME + Digital” about the dangers that small and medium-sized companies face, at a time when computer attacks are part of everyday business. The initiative is organized by Konica Minolta, on October 18th and will be broadcast on the company LinkedIn.

Cyberattacks are not exclusive to large companies, which can put SMEs in a fragile situation if they do not adopt preventive and digital security measures. This is the starting point for sharing the vision of several experts on the challenge of cybersecurity and the importance of the digital transition for Small and Medium Enterprises.

Cyber attacks in Portugal grew by 81 percent in 2021 (Check Point Research, 2021), which highlights the importance of SMEs (99 percent of the Portuguese business community) being alert and taking preventive measures.

European studies reveal the importance that entrepreneurs give to the digital transition of their business: 53 percent of companies consider that they have made some progress in the digital transformation, but that there is still much to do (European Digital Transformation Analysis, Prepared for KMBS Europe, 2021) and 30 percent of companies say one of the biggest IT challenges is keeping up with new technologies (European Digital Transformation Analysis, Prepared for KMBS Europe, Country: Portugal, November 2021).

Cybersecurity is a central theme of “SME + Digital”, but it will not be the only one. Demystifying digital transformation processes, which are also within the reach of SMEs and not just large companies, is another major objective.

“SMEs are facing decisive challenges for their future and we believe that this is a historic opportunity to share information and build value-added solutions for the digital transformation of national companies”.

Vasco Falcão, CEO of Konica Minolta Portugal & Spain.
