Samsung has filed requests for tax breaks for 11 potential chip factories in Texas, according to documents submitted to US state authorities.
The South Korean technology company’s applications were filed before the state tax incentive program expired in December. Samsung already has a chip factory in Texas and is building a new one.

The documents gave the first public estimate of the potential value of the proposed new investments, showing that the units would cost from US$12 billion to US$23 billion each and would create 900 jobs or more.
“We have no specific plans to build (new factories) at this time. However, the requests for tax breaks for the State of Texas are part of Samsung’s long-term planning process to assess the feasibility of building additional factories in the United States,” Samsung said in a statement.
Last year, Samsung selected the city of Taylor, Texas, as the location for a new $17 billion factory focused on advanced chips, which is expected to create 2,000 high-end jobs. technology and start of production in the second half of 2024.
