3 Tips for Safe Shopping on Black Friday

.

Black Friday is getting closer and closer and attracts the attention of shoppers and retailers; however, it is also one of the favorite times of the year for cybercriminals, who do not hesitate to enrich themselves through various fraudulent schemes.

In order to help consumers, Henrique Dal Bo Chimara, Director of Operations at Verisure Brasil, shares three simple tips for safe shopping on Black Friday.

Black Friday 2022 will take place on the last Friday of the month, November 25th, and sales expectations are high. According to Abcomm (Brazilian Association of Electronic Commerce), e-commerce alone can generate R$ 6 billion in sales during the period across the country. The numbers also point to a possible growth of 3.5% in sales when compared to the previous year.

However, it is necessary to maintain some care when shopping, as fraud and cyber crimes can happen during this period. According to the UN report, Brazil is included among the five countries with the most cyber crimes, alongside Russia and China.

To help consumers not fall for scams, the Director of Operations at Verisure Brazil, Henrique Dal Bo Chimara, brings three tips to enjoy online shopping safely.

Black Friday: 3 tips for safe shopping

  1. Pay close attention to whether the store is known and make sure the website address is spelled correctly, as many criminals can copy trusted websites. It is also very important to avoid buying from unknown websites, as the chance of being scammed is high.
  2. Research the reputation of the store, either on the internet, on the “Reclame Aqui” portal or even with acquaintances. It is important to check the supplier’s attitude in the relationship with customers who have already purchased products.
  3. Prefer to buy by credit card so that you have the protection of the card itself, canceling the purchase or blocking it, in case data is lost. Also, make sure you’re browsing a secure site and be on the lookout for important little details like the padlock image next to the site’s HTTPs. This padlock indicates that data transmission is more secure and encrypted.

“A fake email presents an appeal, such as a prize you have won even though you have not entered any contest. Be suspicious of everything you receive without asking”, emphasizes Henrique. “Always note that fake emails have lower image quality or typos. So always be suspicious,” he adds.
